Among bath accessories, one of those items which has become a disposable item are shower curtains. Maybe it’s because the modern shower curtain was designed to be disposable. This I found out on a recent trip to the hardware store where I usually buy bathroom and kitchen accessories.
The shower curtains I found on display had thin plastic curtains which were quite flimsy. Truth is, shower curtains are made of either thick or thin plastic. The thin plastic shower curtain are cheaper, of course. And since these come in sets of two curtains with plastic shower curtain rings, you just replace the shower curtains when they get dirty. This is not an eco-friendly solution, but there’s really no way to clean these things.
There has been a slight improvement in curtain shower technology, however, with the development of an easy to install shower curtain rod. The old style shower curtain rods were made of a light metal pipe with two fixed ends you had to screw into the wall. The shower curtain rod had to be inserted into place after the two ends had been fixed.
The new designs for the shower curtain rod is an extensible plastic pipe with rubber ends. It’s very simple to install without fixing any screws into the bathroom wall. Twisting one end of the rod extended it so that it would touch the opposite walls. You just have to continue twisting to extend it. What it does is it presses against both walls to keep it in place.
Since the shower curtain rods are a one-time install, you just forget that it’s there. You only need to uninstall it when you change the curtains.
