There’s a new automated toilet seat in town. From the Bottoms Up company, they’ve recently introduced to market an automated toilet seat which does only one thing: the toilet seat cover automatically flips up to open when someone is near enough for the intentions to be understood. It also closes automatically once the deed is done.
As an automated toilet seat, this is pretty basic which does a basic thing. Unfortunately, the very basic thing of raising and lowering a toilet seat is something which is not easily picked up by men. For commercial establishments, this could allay any fear of use from customers who don’t want to touch any part of an alien toilet seat (or a strange toilet for that matter). What it also doesn’t have is automated lighting, for using the seat in the dark.
This toilet seat does not have any of the jets and nozzles which the japanese have deployed successfully in their (local) market. Those seats have voice assist, and push button controls for volume and spray strength, as well as for the bidet controls, spray, and air-dry for the buttocks. Additionally, those seats are heated, for the winter months. But that’s an extreme example of japanese ingenuity.
As a bath accessory, I’m quite comfortable with the toilet seat cover having it’s own washable cover. The automatic flip up and down reminds me of a low-budget horror movie. And any improvements (lights, auto flush, etc.) might just make the whole idea worse. It’s a cool concept for those who really like clean bathrooms, or are OC about closing the seat covers.
