Stumped whether or not to buy bathroom wallpaper? Read on…

Using bathroom wallpapers as part of bathroom decor has been the subject of long and tedious debates. Both those who are for and against it have raised various points, and they all seem to be valid and wise. The side saying bathroom wallpapers are not ideal for use argue that steam from showers easily make the wallpapers crack and peel – therefore it is neither a cost effective nor long lasting bathroom decor alternative.

On the other hand, those who extol the merits of bathroom wallpapers stress on its versatility – bathroom wallpapers can be used for to decorate the entire bathroom or just specific areas you want to turn into focus points. It is also a great way to cover up any imperfections on the walls or tiles, specially if you neither have the time nor the resources to do a thorough bathroom makeover.

But what exactly are bathroom wallpapers? Allow me to explain. Bathroom wallpapers are similar to regular house wallpapers except that the material is slightly thicker and more durable. It costs almost as little as regular wallpapers too, but come in flashier designs and bolder colors.

Bathroom wallpapers are meant to add life and variety to what otherwise looks like cold and plain porcelain and metal bathrooms. If you’re not into plants or if you think adding too many items inside the bathroom are too much of a hassle, then bathroom wallpapers are a good choice.

Besides being affordable, bathroom wallpapers are easy to install. All you have to do is prepare the walls first by thoroughly cleaning or scrubbing them because the bathroom wallpaper adhesive will not adhere to uneven and dirty surfaces. After this, just carefully peel of the backing and attach the wallpaper onto your selected spot or portion. Be sure to smoothen out wrinkles and edges as you go.

As for the earlier issue about whether bathroom wallpapers are ideal for use or not – here’s my take on it: use bathroom wallpapers in areas not directly exposed to steam or vapor. This type of decor is best suited for powder rooms and half baths (areas with no showers or tubs) and can even be used as accents on shelves, bathroom vanity cabinets or small pocket areas you would want to divert attention to.

A good use of bathroom wallpaper would be as accent or lining on the sides of the bathroom doors. I’ve even seen some on a teenagers bathroom – the mirrors, windows and doors were lined with girly pink bathroom wallpaper. Now that’s a personal touch for just a few cents!
